Guido Roth January 17, at Let me give you the heredity of those short lived models. Guild had for the most part stopped producing solid body guitars, and in an effort to add revenue to the Guild line, they had mostly solidbody guitars built in Korea and Indonesia. DeArmond also built Guild copy basses and high end BluesBird clones, but after — DeArmond had gone away — maybe because they were so good and competing with other Fender and Squier models?
My theory is that rather than toss out hundreds of potential guitars, they made them Squiers — and seeing what is available through the next couple of years, you can see what was popular or what they had the most of. So, in they had the full gamut of models, a bolt-on and two set-neck one with dot and one with block inlays M LP style body, a bolt and a set-neck S , a semi-hollowbody with dot fretboard and a jazz with block inlays.
And that was that, no more left-overs, back to Teles and Strats and Fender was looking for someone else to buy Guild. This Fender site has several pages:

In the second half of the 20th century, however, accordion sales were declining; but Hagstrom were there at the beginning of the new guitar boom, producing their first electric, the Hagstrom De Luxe in By this time, Albin had died later to be replaced by his son Karl-Erik , but the companys many years experience of accordion manufacture massively influenced the early guitars, with the use of pearloid sparkle finishes and a preference for push-switches over potentiometers more widely used in American guitars.
Over the next two decades, Hagstrom produced a number of interesting and commercially sucessful guitars, many with a nod towards better known American designs, but some quite unique. One important innovation by Hagstrom, and arguably one of the key reasons for their sucess, was the low-action “fastest playing neck in the world” produced by their patented H-shaped “expander-stretcher” truss rod rail.
In the early sixties, Hagstrom produced a number of solid bodies that were distributed by different companies worldwide, often given alternate model names and even different brands; for example Hershman in the US labelled some Hagstrom guitars as Goya , whilst Selmer in the UK used the marque Futurama. Guitars like the Corvette and Impala helped cemment Hagstrom’s reputation as a quality builder, and by alternate branding was no longer necessary.
In the latter half of the decade solid bodies were selling well, particularly the Hagstrom II and III, as were the semi-acoustic Viking , finally appearing in the hands of Elvis Presley in Hagstrom guitars of the s did conform somewhat to an establishing consensus admittedly Gibson’s of what a guitar should be.. But this was largely beneficial, the Les Paul-style Swede was, and still is, a very highly regarded guitar, perhaps the pinnacle of vintage Hagstrom guitars.

Damn, it was so inexpensive that I could almost afford to smash it on stage! But as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. This allowed some elbowroom for Gibson and Fender to rethink and retool their operations to fortify their position in the market. To avoid the same problem happening again, Gibson bought Epiphone and started building some very nice Imported Copy Guitars! Return to the Main Index. Sometimes there just isn’t enough information on electric instruments and amps to allow them to be properely dated. And many people ask me to try and determine the year of their old amplifier, or to help them with the year of their older off-brand electric guitar. Since I primarily collect amps by Fender, and guitars by Gibson, Fender, Martin, National, Epiphone, Gretsch and Rickenbacker, I really can’t help them with these other less popular brands.
As you have probably noticed, there is plenty of information here to help date the brands that I am interested in. But where does that leave everyone else? Well I’m not one to leave you out in the informational cold, so here’s something that I use quite often in dating amplifiers and electric guitars. It’s called the “source-date code”, and it can help determine the approximate age of an electric instrument by the date its components were manufactured.
Source-Date Codes On American made vintage gear, the pots and speakers provide an excellent opportunity to date a piece of equipment by referencing their “source-date code”. The source-date code found on pots and speakers gives the manufacturer and date roughly when the components were made. It may have been some time before the part was installed at the factory, but it still provides a good approximation of when the gear was made.
